More than 200 managers from Academy Mortgage scaled Mount Everest in January—in a team-building simulation, that is. With activities like this, it’s easy to see how Academy’s annual Leadership Summit is not your typical sales rally.
A reflection of our unique company culture, our Leadership Summit is focused on the growth and development of our People—the hundreds of managers and leaders from across the country who attend every year. This year’s theme, “The Power of Potential,” was repeated in the extraordinary stories of the inspirational speakers and educational workshops.
Mountaineer Hilaree Nelson shared her moments of triumph and defeat climbing the Earth’s highest peaks. James Lawrence, better known as the Iron Cowboy, talked about how it was unimaginably possible to run 50 Iron Man races in 50 days in 50 states. Former college football star Inky Johnson showed his passion for life in his remarks about overcoming setbacks.
Academy’s Leadership Team led workshops on developing your potential from within; developing the potential of others; and developing your brand. The exercises used in these sessions required those present to thoughtfully consider how they would answer questions like: What is your “why;” why is coaching important to you; and what’s your brand story.
As is typical of Academy events, our Leadership Summit included a service activity to pack 60,000 meals for those in need.
