1. Feb. 2 - National Bubble Gum Day

You have Ruth Spiro to thank if National Bubble Gum Day is one of the February holidays you’ve been looking forward to.* Spiro, children’s book author of Made by Maxine and other books, came up with this day to help school-age children raise money for activities without having to collect pledges or sell goods. On February 2, kids can donate 50 cents to chew gum to their hearts’ content—a privilege that’s usually forbidden.

2. Feb. 3 - National Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day

Though you don’t need an official day to break arbitrary rules and eat whatever you want for breakfast, it certainly doesn’t hurt. National Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day originated in 1960s New York in the dead of winter.* Florence Rappaport, mother of six, began the tradition on a snowy day. A few decades later, and ice cream for breakfast has gone global, with countries like China and Israel adopting the holiday.

3. Feb. 7 - National Send a Card to a Friend Day

These days, sending hand-written letters has become a lost art. But there’s something to be said for taking the time and effort to mail a card in lieu of sending a text or email. For those who aren’t a fan of Valentine’s Day, National Send a Card to a Friend Day presents the perfect alternative.*

4. Feb. 9 - National Read in the Bathtub Day

Like many of these February holidays, National Read in the Bathtub Day is one you may not need reason to celebrate. But having an official day to mark this beloved pastime serves as a good reminder. Reading in the bath is said to date back as far as 500 B.C. in the Roman Empire.*

5. Feb. 11 – National Guitar Day

Make like Ken and serenade your inner circle with your favorite acoustic hit. If you don’t play guitar, you can still celebrate by listening to a legend, like Jimi Hendrix. Though the electric guitar was invented less than 100 years ago—in 1931—there’s no shortage of guitar greats for you to appreciate.*

6. Feb. 14 - National Christine Day

Who needs Valentine’s Day when you have National Christine Day? If your name is Christine, or if you know a Christine, you are more than eligible to participate. Christine is a popular name of Greek origin that can be found in several other languages, like English, German, and French.* French mathematician Christine Bachoc is said to be one of the most notable Christines of the twenty-first century.

7. Feb. 17 - Champion Crab Races Day

If you’ve been meaning to race your crabs, today’s the day to do it. A crab race may involve anywhere from 12 to 14 heats and rewards the winning crab with a cash prize.* To learn more about crab racing—or to find an event near you—look for local groups, like the Florida Crab Racing Association.

8. Feb. 20 - Hoodie Hoo Day

What do you say when you’re done with winter and want to welcome in the spring? Hoodie Hoo, naturally. On Hoodie Hoo Day, created by the folks at Wellcat Holidays, you’re invited to shout this phrase at noon while waving your hands, in the hopes of scaring those winter blues away.* The only way to find out if it really works is to try it.

9. Feb. 23 - National Dog Biscuit Day

Here’s the perfect excuse to give your dog an extra treat. National Dog Biscuit Day, also called Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, is a day to offer your dog unlimited goodies—or bake your own, if you feel up to it. Some even go so far as to throw a party for their pup and invite other four-legged friends. The sky’s the limit.

10. Feb. 26 - For Pete's Sake Day

Finally, a day where you’re encouraged to say your favorite declaration of frustration with abandon. “For Pete’s Sake” is believed to refer to St. Peter and was originally used as a substitute for taking the Lord’s name in vain.* Fun fact: This is another lighthearted February holiday created by Ruth and Thomas Roy at Wellcat.

11. Feb. 28 - National Public Sleeping Day

Naps are exactly what’s needed to round out these February holidays. On National Public Sleeping Day, it’s completely acceptable to grab some shuteye wherever you happen to be—whether it’s on a bus, at a park, or in a coffee shop.* The suggested length for an ideal power nap is between 20 to 30 minutes.
